Any Old Iron

When I was young
Recycling was considered the preserve
Of extreme lefties and cranks
And the Green Party
Hadn’t even been invented.
Nowadays though
We are all at it.
And the sorting
Is a complicated business
Bottles into bags
Papers into boxes
Food into caddy’s
I heard a rumour
That the dustmen round here
Aren’t happy
Concerned about the lack of
Proper rubbish.
